Learning Where We Live – Anglophone West Communities is a collection of school-centred digital worlds created for use with Minecraft Education. Each world recreates approximately 4 km × 4 km (2.5 mi × 2.5 mi) surrounding a real Anglophone West school community in a distinctive blocky digital twin format.
The collection also includes 50 lesson and project ideas designed to help educators immediately put these maps to work across multiple subject areas.
Students can explore familiar roads, neighbourhoods, waterways, public spaces, major buildings, natural features, and community landmarks, then use those environments as the starting point for meaningful classroom learning.
Rather than beginning with an empty Minecraft world, students enter a recognizable representation of a real New Brunswick community. From there, they can investigate how communities are organized, study local geography, identify important infrastructure, explore environmental questions, redesign public spaces, examine transportation networks, propose future developments, create historical interpretations, and imagine how their own communities could evolve.
These worlds are especially suited to Social Studies, Geography, Science, Technology, STEM, ELA, sustainability, community planning, design thinking, and interdisciplinary project-based learning .
Because the environments are based on real geographic data, students can make connections between the digital world and the places around them. The worlds are intentionally presented as educational interpretations rather than exact architectural replicas, allowing students to explore, question, modify, rebuild, and create.
